If you're not receiving Floodsmart's free leads, you're missing out.

While part of the country currently faces an increased flood risk during peak hurricane season, the threat of flooding is still real for the rest of the country. For example, storms with intense rain can cause flash flooding or stall and oversaturate the ground, causing rivers and streams to overflow. While you can't prevent a flood, you can help protect property owners in your community from the financial devastation of a flood by offering a flood insurance policy. You've already made the right decision by registering with FloodSmart, which provides you with tools, resources, and information about flood risk and flood insurance-helping you to financially protect new and existing clients. Now is the time to take the next step and sign up for free leads with FloodSmart's Agent Referral Program. Floodsmart provides you with free leads to property owners in your area who are looking to purchase a flood insurance policy.

Here's how you can sign up for free leads:
  • Log in to your profile on Agents.FloodSmart.gov.
  • Click on "My Account" to access your Agent Referral Profile and opt in to the program (see below).
  • Submit proof of two hours of flood insurance training.
  • Complete your profile. That's it!
Remember to offer flood insurance to every client. It's not only a smart thing to do-it's the right thing to do. Check out Floodsmart's video to learn more!

Sometimes the remedy to a problem causes a bigger problem. In 2004, a trucking company lost a sexual harassment lawsuit when one of its male trainers made repeated and forceful advances to a female trainee during a 2-week training trip. They paid out $95,000 overall, mostly punitive. In response the trucking company instituted a same-sex training requirement. This meant that while men could start training almost immediately, women had to wait up to 18 months due to the lack of female trainers. This led to a sexual discrimination suit in 2011 and in April of this year they agreed to pay out just over $3 million. They also dropped the same sex requirement in 2013.

The EEOC files and settles lawsuits almost daily. Even the smallest settlements are usually tens of thousands of dollars and unfortunately settling can be cheaper even if your business isn't guilty. Plus, even if you win there are legal fees.
