How to Calculate Trip Cost for Travel Insurance

Do you know how to calculate trip cost for individual travelers when writing travel insurance? It’s a frequently asked question about the travel insurance options available in Big “I” Markets through Travel Insured International—and it essentially comes down to two factors.

Simply include pre-paid and non-refundable costs a client would lose if forced to cancel on day of departure. Some examples include:

  • Children 17 and under: Although they may be insured at no extra charge or at a discounted price, it is still necessary to include trip costs for minors.
  • Airfare: Consider the cost for each person as individually itemized on airline tickets.
  • Accommodations: Split accommodation expenses that are not itemized individually among all travelers.
  • Cruise: Consider the cost for each person as individually itemized on cruise receipt.
  • Rental transportation: Assign whole cost to the person who paid for the rental. All licensed drivers on rental contract are still covered.
  • Meals and entertainment: Consider the cost for each person (pre-paid, non-refundable only).

It’s also important to list travelers with different addresses on separate applications. To learn more, visit Big "I" Markets and take a tour of Travel Insurance.
