During today's 2018 Big “I" Legislative Conference Breakfast, Vaughn Graham, Big “I" chairman, presented Brett Nilsson, senior vice president of The Buckner Company in Salt Lake City, with the 2018 Woodworth Memorial Award—the highest honor the Big “I" bestows on an individual member.
The prestigious award, established in 1925 in memory of the second Big “I" president C.H. Woodworth, recognizes the outstanding contributions of an independent agent or broker to the national association, to their Big “I" colleagues, and to the insurance industry.
During his more than 30-year career as a licensed insurance agent, broker and surplus lines broker, Nilsson has served as president of his state association and chairman of national. With licenses in more than 35 states, he specializes in commercial manufacturing, contracting and property.
At the state association level, Nilsson also served on the board of directors and earned recognition as his state's Young Agent of the Year and Agent of the Year. He also won the Arnold Burgener Award for Insurance Excellence—an award the state has given only seven times in history.
At the national association level, Nilsson has served on the Big “I" Finance Committee, Professional Liability Committee, Communications Committee, Dues Task Force Committee, Board of Directors, and Executive Committee. He currently serves the national association as a member of the Big “I" Reinsurance Board.
“This year's recipient gives it all for the Big 'I' and the independent agency system," Graham said when presenting the award.
In the industry, Nilsson has served on the advisory councils of numerous insurance companies and as a representative for the World Federation of Insurance Intermediaries. In his community, he is a member of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce, serves on the advisory board of the Weber State University business school and is a member of the Layton City Planning Commission.
“I want you all to know this means a great deal to me," Nilsson when accepting the award. “I hope each of you appreciate this wonderful occupation we're involved in. It's a great opportunity to be honored today."
