FEMA Requests More Information from Policyholders

FEMA is implementing two changes to the NFIP that will affect numerous policyholders.

 

Now, a primary residence is classified as the property in which the insured or their spouse lives for more than 50% of the year—a significant adjustment from the previously required 80%.

 

And for all pre-FIRM policyholders currently receiving a subsidized rate, FEMA will send a notice requesting additional documentation from insureds. To maintain the primary residence pre-FIRM subsidized rate, the insured or the insurance agent must submit one of the following:

  • Driver’s license
  • Automobile registration
  • Proof of insurance for a vehicle
  • Voter’s registration
  • Documents showing where children attend school
  • Homestead tax credit form for primary residence
