Richard David Teubner, former Big “I" chairman, passed away on Dec. 14, in Plano, Texas, after a brief illness. Teubner served as Big “I" chairman in 1983 and as Big I Oklahoma board of directors chairman from 1970-1971. A service was held at First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa this week.
A Tulsan for most of his life, Teubner served in the U.S. Air Force before starting an insurance agency with his father that eventually merged with Rich & Cartmill in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Teubner served as president of Rich & Cartmill from 1975 to 2001, later as chairman, and ultimately chairman emeritus.

Teubner was heavily involved in the insurance industry, working with the Big “I" at the local, state and national level. In 1988, he received the Woodworth Memorial Award, the highest award that can be given to an agent by the national organization.
Locally, he also served as president of the Family & Children's Service and president of the Will Rogers Rotary Club. In his retirement, Teubner became a member of the board of directors of Delta Dental of Oklahoma and served as the board chairman from 2007-2010. He also enjoyed many years serving the city he loved as a Tulsa International Airport volunteer ambassador. Travel was an important part of his life, and he capped off his adventures with a tandem parachute jump on his 85th birthday, accompanied by his children and one grandchild.

“Dick is a true Big 'I' legend who will be long remembered for his leadership and dedication to the Big 'I' and the independent agency system. Dick was the oldest living past Big 'I' chairman, and a teacher for many of his successors," said Bob Rusbuldt, Big “I" president & CEO. “The Big 'I' is truly indebted to Dick for his lifelong commitment to this profession. Dick combined his vision with a special talent to motivate people. The Big 'I' and our industry have lost a giant, but his footprints have and will continue to guide independent agents."
