Big “I” Markets recently surveyed agents who requested a bicycle quote, but didn't obtain a policy.
While speed and responsiveness received high marks, the most common reason for not following through was premium price. One agent responded saying it was a "higher premium than scheduled on homeowners policy”—well, of course it is!
A homeowners policy simply replaces a bicycle and will not provide coverage for situations such as theft when the insured is away from home (without an endorsement), hit and run damage, racing or being hit by another bicyclist.
Bicycle-specific coverage features also include:
- Rental reimbursement
- Competitive fee reimbursement
- Spare parts coverage
- Cyclist apparel
- Medical payments
- Roadside assistance
- Electric assist bicycles
- Deductibles as low as $100
- Worldwide coverage
A comparison chart is available online, as well as a sell sheet to help you get started. Please note that Big “I” Markets has yet to see a homeowners policy that offers vehicle contact protection (similar to uninsured/underinsured motorists coverage) for a bicycle!
The bicycle program is available through Big "I" Markets in all states except Alaska and Hawaii.
