During the Big “I” Legislative Conference last week, two dozen members of Congress visited the new Big “I” Capitol Hill office Thursday afternoon for a special rooftop reception in honor of InsurPac major donors.
Additionally, dozens of agents and brokers participated in a special reception for Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), a former insurance agent and rising star in his party.
The sixth annual InsurPac Major Donor Appreciation Reception was one of several conference events involving members of Congress. This year’s reception featured a mixture of U.S. Senators and Representatives from both sides of the aisle, highlighting the association’s strong reputation among both Democrats and Republicans.
Support from these major donors, along with more than 5,000 contributions from other agents and supporters, enabled InsurPac to raise more than $2 million in the 2013-2014 election cycle and distribute more than $1.8 million in support of more Senate and House campaigns than ever before—resulting in a 93% campaign victory rate. InsurPac remains the largest property-casualty agent PAC by a wide margin.
During the conference, the Big “I” and InsurPac were also pleased to host a fundraiser in support of an insurance-agent-turned-elected-official. The event raised funds for the 2016 campaign of Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010 and quickly rose through the leadership ranks. In 2013, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley appointed the former insurance agent to fill the seat in the United States Senate vacated by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina).
InsurPac uses 100% of agent contributions to support the campaigns of members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate and candidates for federal office. In disbursing contributions, InsurPac does not look at party affiliation but supports elected officials and candidates for federal office who are advocates and supporters of the independent agency system. InsurPac maximizes these efforts and has an impressive bipartisan track record in Congress and on the campaign trail.
