The Big "I" honored Susan Scott, Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Washington (IIABW) senior vice president of education, with the Spirit of Education award, which recognizes a person or organization working closely with the national organization to deliver quality education to Big "I" members across a variety of platforms. The award is a way to acknowledge the generous contribution of time, energy, expertise and patience necessary to make an education program or offering successful.
"Susan's tireless dedication to ensuring that we deliver quality education programs in Washington and at the national level continue to result in improvements and success," says Madelyn Flanagan, Big "I" vice president of agent development, education and research.
Scott has served for 37 years as senior vice president of education. She was presented with the IIABW's Burnam Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 and the Max Walton Education Award three times in 1983, 1989 and 2005. Under her leadership, IIABW's education department has earned multiple awards, including IIABA's L.P. McCord and now the Excellence in Insurance Education Award. Scott has served on a number of IIABA education-related committees and the Washington Office of the Insurance Commissioner's committees. She has also developed and taught numerous insurance courses.
"Susan Scott is one of those exceptional people whose career is one we all hoped to achieve, but few do," says Sue Knobeloch, executive director of Association of Risk Managers Northwest in Tacoma, Washington. "Susan is an educator, a mentor, a person who helped all of us achieve our goals—someone whose life goal was to make 'you' the best. There is no one more deserving of recognition than Susan Scott."
