New Jersey’s Cappy Stults Honored with Woodworth Memorial Award

Big “I” presents highest individual honor.

WOODWORTH AWARD 0013 smaller file.jpgWASHINGTON, D.C., May 8, 2017—The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers (IIABA or the Big “I”) has awarded Charles “Cappy” Stults with the Woodworth Memorial Award, the highest honor the association bestows on one of its members, during the annual Big “I” Legislative Conference.

Stults is president of Allen & Stults Co., Inc. in Hightstown, New Jersey.

The Woodworth Memorial Award recognizes the meritorious and outstanding contributions of an independent agent or broker to the national association, to his or her Big “I” colleagues and to the insurance industry.

“The Big ‘I’ is proud to present Cappy Stults with the Woodworth Memorial Award for his service to our industry and our association,” said Spencer Houldin, Big “I” chairman and president of Ericson Insurance Advisors headquartered in Washington Depot, Connecticut. “Cappy’s dedication to the independent agency system and to his local community epitomize the very principles of this prestigious award.”

Stults started his service to the Big “I” by founding the New Jersey Young Agents Committee in 1974. He went on to become one of the most active members in the history of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New Jersey (IIABNJ). Stults was state president, a position also held by his father and grandfather, and was New Jersey’s director on the national board of directors. He still continues his service to the Garden State Big “I” as a member of the IIABNJ Finance Committee.

“Cappy is one of the most respected people I know and he has been a great mentor to many,” says Sheri A. Acconzo, IIABNJ president & CEO. “He has made, and he continues to make, a significant contribution to this association and to our industry.”

At the national level, Stults has served in numerous capacities including as chairman of the IIABA Finance Committee and chairman of the IIABA Bylaws Committee. He was a driving force behind starting the Big “I” Reinsurance Corporation and also served as chairman of the board.

Stults is active in his community and has served on numerous boards for charitable organizations and civic groups. He has been active in his town council, the Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge, YMCA, Rotary Club and Piercefield Conservators.

The Woodworth Award was established in 1925 in memory of C.H. Woodworth of Buffalo, New York, the second president of the association. It is awarded to the Big “I” member who best demonstrates outstanding service benefiting independent insurance agents and the entire insurance industry.

Founded in 1896, the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA or the Big “I”) is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of approximately a quarter of a million agents, brokers and their employees nationally. Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Independent agents and brokers offer all lines of insurance—property, casualty, life, health, employee benefit plans and retirement products. Web address: www.independentagent.com.
