InVEST Partners with Junior Achievement to Bring Expanded Insurance Education into the Classroom

Financial and insurance literacy program is key to attracting young talent to the industry.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. Nov. 15, 2017 – InVEST, the insurance industry's premier classroom to career education program, is now partnering with Junior Achievement (JA) to include InVEST's insurance program as part of a new JA high school financial literacy curriculum. Launched last month, this new hybrid curriculum is being piloted in Atlanta and will be rolled out nationwide at a later date. InVEST and JA believe that insurance is an important part of a high school student's introduction to the world of financial literacy.

"We're pleased to partner with such an esteemed organization and happy that insurance education is being recognized as a vital part of financial literacy," says Deborah Pickford, executive director of InVEST. "Our goal is to educate more high school students about insurance – a product they will buy most of their lives – as well as highlight the many great careers in the insurance industry."

"Junior Achievement welcomes the opportunity to partner with organizations like InVEST to help students better understand important financial tools, like insurance," says Jack Kosakowski, president & CEO of Junior Achievement USA. "Through these kinds of collaborations, our goal is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed."

JA of Georgia, Travelers, InVEST and Junior Achievement USA developed a plan to incorporate several chapters from the InVEST insurance education program into JA's financial literacy curriculum. Topics included in the new curriculum include: a basic introduction to insurance, managing risk, insurance agency operations and careers in insurance as well as information about auto and business owners' insurance policies. The curriculum includes instructional content and project-based learning. InVEST is also working with curriculum developers to deliver additional content and add interactive features to its award-winning website.
