Big “I” Agents Council for Technology | Partner Insight Report

The technology story inside the 2026 Agency Universe Study.

A focused look at a much larger study.

Every two years, the Big “I” Agency Universe Study asks independent agencies about their operations, staffing, growth, carrier relationships, and more. In 2026, 1,376 agencies took part. This report does not cover the full study. It isolates the findings on AI adoption, technology challenges, marketing investment, and what agencies want from their partners, using only the study’s published data.

Key technology signals.

AI adoption has tripled

46% of agencies now use AI, up from 15% in 2024. Marketing content is the leading use.

Governance hasn’t kept pace.

Only 21% of agencies have a written AI policy. Among agencies not yet using AI, 60% cite a lack of knowledge and 48% cite security and privacy concerns.

Connectivity is still the top challenge.

43% of agencies rank multiple carrier interfaces among their top three technology problems.

Agencies want carriers to fix integration.

AMS integration rose from 47% to 54% as a top carrier priority. Concern about AI in underwriting and pricing grew from 28% to 40%.

Marketing budgets are up, but support is uneven.

The average agency marketing budget rose from $14,300 to $20,600, yet 78% of small agencies received no carrier marketing support in 2025.
