New Webpage Introduces Captive Agents to the Independent Agency System

The independent agency channel offers agents the opportunity to build a business that reflects their goals while providing clients with greater choice and flexibility. To help agents exploring this transition, the Big “I” has launched a new Captive to Independent Agency webpage.
Designed with both search engine optimization (SEO) and emerging artificial intelligence (AI) search experiences in mind, the page introduces captive agents to the independent agency system and highlights the resources, services and community support available through the Big “I” and its state associations. Backed by more than 125 years of experience serving independent agents, the site showcases education, market access opportunities, employee benefits, errors & omissions coverage and other resources available to help agencies succeed.
The page also includes a call to action for agents interested in learning more about Big “I” membership. Prospective members will be directed to their state association to continue the conversation.
Beginning in July 2026, the Big “I” will expand awareness efforts through its Insurance Journal TV sponsorship. The campaign will include a 10-second video spot, leaderboard and banner advertisements directing interested agents to the new webpage. This will kick off a broader strategy leveraging social media and a nurture campaign for interested agents.
This initiative complements the existing Start an Independent Agency resources on the Big “I” website, which continue to support entrepreneurs and those interested in launching a scratch agency. This page also features links to state association resources related to starting an independent agency.
Does your state association have a Start an Agency webpage or similar resources? Please send the link or updates to Susan Bonner so the Big “I” can help connect prospective independent agents with local support and expertise.
