Certified Insurance Counselors are recognized for their expertise and commitment to the industry
The Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation program offers practical and relevant knowledge to keep professionals more competitive in meeting the changing needs of clients and the industry. Participants earn their designation after taking five institutes and passing an exam after each one.
This designation is recommended for:
- Licensed agents, brokers and adjusters
- Insurance professionals with at least two years’ insurance or risk management experience

Designation Maintenance: To maintain the designation, participants must annually attend at least one program sanctioned by the Risk & Insurance Education Alliance. Exam is not required for designation maintenance.
Courses are offered in-person classroom or LIVE VIRTUAL. Both types can be found on our online education calendar. NO EXAM is required for CE or for your designation update.
Classroom In-Person
Our in-person classroom courses are two-day seminars at locations around the state. Online exam for designation credit from home or office the following week.

Thursday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

LIVE VIRTUAL
Our LIVE VIRTUAL COURSES functions just like a classroom institute except participants are at a computer. Pre-registration is required. It is very important that you register for these LIVE two-day webinars via the ONLINE EDUCATION CALENDAR to find one approved for CE in South Carolina.
You will:
- See the instructor in real time
- See speaker presentations
- Participate in Q&A sessions
- Be in class all day with regular breaks and an hour each day for lunch
- Participate from the comfort and convenience of your home or office
- Online exam for designation credit from home/office the following week
We will send you a confirmation email that includes course materials and a link to view webinar with technical specs and support line. You can print the course materials or view them on your computer, laptop, or tablet.
All CIC exams are not taken in class, but are administered ONLINE during the Monday-Thursday “exam window” the week following the Institute.
No refund for cancellations within 10 business days of an Institute. Transfers/changes made within 10 business days of the class will incur a $135 processing fee. Other changes made within 30 days of institute will incur a $75 processing fee. If you do not attend and do not notify IIABSC at least 24 hours prior to the seminar, you will not be allowed to transfer your registration fee and will not receive a refund. ALL CANCELLATIONS AND TRANSFERS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING.
IIABSC offers several scholarships each year that cover the registration fees of one institute (either classroom or LIVE VIRTUAL) for those currently pursuing the CIC designation.
DEADLINE: February 15, 2027
Available to any licensed agent or broker, or any individual who has a minimum of two years full-time experience as a practitioner in insurance or risk management.
