Big “I” Statement on Hurricane Aid Package and NFIP Extension

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 8, 2017— “The Big ‘I’ commends the quick Congressional action on the hurricane aid package to deliver much-needed assistance to those suffering in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and appreciates the inclusion of a National Flood Insurance Program extension, an action which avoids an expiration of the program later this month. However, the Big ‘I’ also calls upon Congress to pass a longer-term extension of the NFIP to provide more certainty to consumers. At a time when Houston is struggling to recover from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma threatens to make a direct hit on Florida, it is more important than ever to come up with a longer lasting solution to the nation’s flood risk.”

Founded in 1896, the Big “I” is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of approximately a quarter of a million agents, brokers and their employees nationally.
