The 2014 Best Practices Study Update is the second in the three-year study cycle and Reagan Consulting continues to study those firms that qualified as a 2013 Best Practices Agency.
The Big “I” Young Agents Leadership Institute provides young agents education and networking opportunities to help them hone their leadership and sales skills so they help lead the independent agency system into the future. Many attendees chair state committees and are making their way up the ranks of the independent agency system. They're motivated decision-makers who will be leading the way for young professionals in the industry. Company partners that support this event have the opportunity to reinforce their brand with the best and the brightest young agent superstars.
Agent and company representatives from the Council for Best Practices met via webinar on April 28 with chair Robert Kestenbaum, from York International Agency in Harrison, N.Y. leading the discussion.
Last month, the Big “I” Diversity Task Force and InVEST® teamed up with the Chinese American Insurance Association (CAIA), Latin Agents & Brokers Association (LABA), National African American Insurance Association (NAIA) and Korean American Insurance & Financial Association (KAIFA) to host a collaborative Insurance Industry Diversity Career Fair.
The InVEST program, the Big “I” non-profit program dedicated to improving insurance literacy and attracting new talent to the industry, continues to make big strides in 2014. The high school and college program has already grown by 12%this year, with 101 new programs implemented across the nation.

Is your company making plans to mix and mingle with agent leaders from around the country Sept. 10-14 at the Big “I” Fall Leadership Conference in Grand Rapids? The event is home to the Young Agents Leadership Institute, Education Convocation, InVEST board meeting and Big “I” national board of directors meeting.
In early April, the Chicago Business Journal published a great article discussing Trusted Choice's new “Freedom” advertising campaign. The new ads illustrate that independent agents are not trapped by one company, but can pick and choose from many to get better deals and more comprehensive coverage for their clients.
The goal of SignOn Once is to allow insurance professionals to spend more time with the value-added work of serving prospects and clients and less time working on remembering and managing passwords. Meanwhile, carriers can expect cost efficiencies through implementing SignOn Once.
Yesterday Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R.-Calif.) was elected as the House Majority Leader. McCarthy was a keynote speaker during the Big “I” Legislative Conference in April.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking reported S. 2244, the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2014 by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Dean Heller (R-Nev.), to the full Senate for consideration by a unanimous 22–0 vote in early June.
