Big 'I' Diversity Task Force Gears Up for Conference

The Big “I” Diversity Task Force is preparing for an event-filled week during the 2015 Big “I” Legislative Conference.

The task force will hold its formal meeting on Wednesday, April 22 to discuss next steps in assisting state associations with their diversity and inclusion efforts—a part of its strategic action plan as outlined in the Diversity Task Force Executive Summary. Invited guests include leaders from the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) and Thurgood Marshall College Fund. To date, the task force has meet with seven state associations regarding their diversity and inclusion initiatives.

That same day, the task force is pleased to participate as a sponsor for the National Capitol Central Maryland of NAAIA’s scholarship event to benefit students pursuing business majors associated with risk management, finance or marketing.

On Friday, April 24 the task force will host “Our Changing Demographics: The Business Case for Diversity and Inclusion.” During this special presentation, Paul Taylor, leading expert in demographic, social and generational trends, will share detailed insight on today’s demographic shifts and their impact on businesses like yours. Attendees will learn how diversity and inclusion practices can improve the quality of their workforce while also improving their bottom line.

Outside the conference, the task force recently made a new resource available on the Big “I” Diversity webpage entitled “Market Snapshots.” Developed by Geoscape, this tool provides detailed information about the racial and ethnic minority groups within specific cities across the country including various Hispanic, African-American and Asian communities.

The Big “I” Diversity Task Force is proud to be recognized as one of the nation’s top 25 diversity councils for 2014.
