MyNetwork Season 6 Learning Round Sessions
The New Frontier
When the world in front of you is nothing like the world behind you, there are only two choices: either adventure … or die! In this session we’ll take a look at the incredibly important intersection of a leader’s technical competence, emotional intelligence and adaptive capabilities. This narrow intersection is where it all comes together for the truly transformational leader who emerges from the fog of disruption and steps out into the New Frontier.
No one is going to follow you “off the map” until they know they can truly trust you “on the map”. Credibility is won and lost every day in the midst of leading on the straight and flat road of business-as-usual. Only a leader who is deeply trusted can lead a group “off the map” on a great expedition. Competence alone isn’t enough to garner that trust. This session will focus on the relational congruence of a leader and your critical responsibility to shape and maintain a healthy organizational culture that allows a transformational adventure to even be possible.
In uncharted territory, adaptation is everything. In this session we’ll look at the best of the best in adaptive leadership and navigation from expedition greats like Heifetz, Friedman, Lencioni, Kotter and Collins for finding new, innovative answers to challenges that we face when venturing into the unknown. Our equipping focus will center around four key leadership disciplines that are critical for any guidebook to prepare you for leadership into an adventure through uncharted territory.
To truly become a transformational leader, one with the courage to take their followers on a great expedition “off the map,” one must realize that no one ever does it alone … and everyone will be changed – especially the leader. Out in the wilderness, Lewis and Clark and all of their team would have perished without the help of their Native American savior. Learning from and collaborating with those who are most at home in uncharted territory may be one of the great opportunities that most leaders miss. In this closing session we’ll dive into the relational dynamics of adaptive leadership where we will go beyond the usual discussions of teaming to look at six types of relationships plus a radical kind of collaboration that are necessary, if not critical, for leading in uncharted territory.
*MyNetwork Member Challenge Round
Need a fresh perspective, a new idea or even just a listening ear? That’s what MyNetwork Challenge Rounds are all about! Sure, we’re always there for each other as we listen to each person’s “warm-up” statements and offer a quick solution or to send a follow-up email, but this session is all about rolling up your sleeves for a few of your tablemates and really working through a challenge presented. All are sure to benefit from this session, whether or not you’re the one presenting a challenge. Believe it or not, you might face what another is struggling with before the week is up!
*MyNetwork Sharing Round
Always a favorite session in the season-ending surveys, “The Are a Few of My Favorite Things” is a session you don’t want to miss. Each MyNetwork tablemate is encouraged to bring “a few” of the things that make their life better, more productive, fun, efficient and definitely more effective. It might be an app, a book, or even just a new thought, but you don’t want to miss this session!
MyNetwork Season 6 Book Discussions
Culture Code: The Secrets of Highly Successful Groups
Author: Daniel Coyle
Often, it’s easy to spot the results of a strong group culture. Pixar hit after hit, five San Antonio Spurs NBA championships under coach Gregg Popovich or even 24 successful restaurants to Danny Meyer’s credit – all signify GREAT group culture! Best-selling author Daniel Coyle believes that forming the bedrock of a strong team culture requires having the specific skill to “build safety,” “share vulnerability” and “establish purpose.” Gain useful and applicable insights about team-building and corporate culture in this session as well as from the book if you get the time to read or listen to it this season.
GRIT: The Power of Passion and Perseverance
Author: Angela Duckworth
How is it that some people succeed, and others fail? Angela Duckworth, instant bestselling author, psychologist and speaker shows anyone striving to succeed, at home, in the classroom, on the field and especially in business – that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent, but rather, a special blend of passion and persistence for a singularly important goal. This is the hallmark of high achievers in every domain and something she calls “grit”.
