Invest is partnering with the Los Angeles chapter of
Latinos in Insurance Networking for our Community (LiNC) to host virtual summer
insurance education sessions for California high school students. As in-person
education and internships continue to be cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns,
insurance professionals have been looking for different ways to provide summer
education opportunities. Parts of the Invest online insurance curriculum will
be incorporated into LiNC’s summer Virtual Professional Development Series and
taught to students by insurance experts within the LiNC network. Some of the
topics include: a basic introduction to insurance, managing risk, auto
insurance issues, and careers in insurance. The course will also explore financial
literacy, resume building and interview skills. LiNC has donated laptops to the
students so they can fully participate in this virtual education program.
With the sudden shift to virtual learning due to COVID-19,
proud to be supporting several online insurance education programs this summer.
Can you imagine high school students taking time out of their summer break to
learn about insurance and insurance careers? That is exactly what will be
happening this summer in Georgia, Illinois and California as students gear up
to go back to insurance “school” this July on their computers. Invest will be
helping to support these programs in several ways.
Kicking off July 14, “Travelers Insuring the Futures with
Invest” in Georgia will include sessions for high school students to teach them
the basics of insurance, give them information about insurance careers, and
show them how to market and sell insurance. A professional development portion
will include Resume 101, Personal Branding and Interview Tips and Tricks.
Students will work on a project with a mentor, finish with a presentation to
leaders, and then graduate from the summer program.
In Illinois, Travelers will also host a similar but shorter program
in July and discuss the basics of auto and homeowners insurance, teach
presentation skills and offer information about insurance programs and classes
from Illinois State University, North Central College and Invest. Prior to the
start of these programs, students will receive a learning kit of Travelers and
Invest-branded notebooks, pads, pens, mouse pads and umbrellas.
Invest and our partners wish to thank the professionals and
teacher volunteers who are generously giving their time to teach—and we commend
these motivated high school students who are using some of their summer break
