Big “I” Diversity Task Force and NAAIA Volunteer at New Orleans Elementary School

Event honored ‘September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance’

Diversity_IIABA_Logo-01.jpgALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 12, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA or the Big “I”) Diversity Task Force and the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) yesterday participated in a service project at an elementary school in New Orleans, La. in honor of the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.

“The Big ‘I’ was privileged to work with NAAIA to honor the National Day of Service and Remembrance,” says Juan Padron, Big “I” Diversity Task Force chairman and SafeGuard Insurance Agency owner in McAllen, Texas. “What better way to show the insurance industry’s commitment to serving the community and education, than to roll up our sleeves and help improve the daily lives of hundreds of elementary school children?”

More than 60 volunteers worked on a variety of projects to improve and beautify the Paul B. Habans Elementary School. Projects included painting the playground and recreational areas, preparing and installing mural logos, installing curtains throughout the school and reading sessions with the students.

“Yesterday’s event was the start of what we hope will be many more community projects involving the NAAIA, Big ‘I’ and other insurance industry leaders,” says Rudy Loney, NAAIA national board chair. “We were delighted that the project was so successful and goes hand-in-hand with NAAIA’s commitment to the InVEST program which is a classroom to work nationwide initiative.”
