Back By Popular Demand: Big "I" to Conduct Countrywide Certificates of Insurance Webinar Dec. 8

Virtual University continues certificates of insurance education effort and to discuss marketplace pushback.

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 17, 2010 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (the Big “I”) today announced that the Big “I” Virtual University will once again present a webinar titled “Certificates of Insurance and Marketplace Pushback” on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Last month, this same webinar was so popular it sold out.

“The independent agency system has seen the detriment of unreasonable and too often onerous requests for certificates of insurance and related documentation,” says Madelyn Flannagan, Big “I” vice president of agent development, education and research. “Owners, general contractors, lenders, landlords and others are making demands that are simply impossible for agents and insurers to comply with legally or practically. Continuing education efforts, such as Big ‘I’ Virtual University webinars, help agents prevent many of the risks and pitfalls.”

“Certificates of insurance obviously serve an important function, but they typically generate little or no revenue while creating significant labor and monetary costs for agencies,” says Bill Wilson, CPCU, ARM, Big “I” associate vice president and Virtual University director. “Matters are also complicated by ACORD's licensing agreement which compels agents to discontinue use of pre-September 2009 editions of the ACORD 24/25. This webinar focuses on the most critical issues involving certificates and provide an update on ‘pushback’ developments.”

“The Big ‘I’ is committed to the professional development and education of those who choose careers in the independent agency system or simply want more information,” says Robert A. Rusbuldt, Big “I” president and CEO. “Programs like the Virtual University, the Diversity Program, InVEST and other continuing education (CE) resources presented by the Big ‘I’ and its industry partners continue to cultivate interest and education in the independent agency system and insurance as a whole.”

Founded in 1896, the Big “I” is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of more than 300,000 agents, brokers and their employees nationally. Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Independent agents and brokers offer all lines of insurance—property, casualty, life and health—as well as employee benefit plans and retirement products.
