Hofmann Honored with Woodworth Memorial Award

Association presents highest individual honor.

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 15, 2011 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers (the Big “I”) yesterday awarded Bill Hofmann with the Woodworth Memorial Award, the highest honor the association bestows on one of its members, at the Big “I” Legislative Conference & Convention.

The Woodworth Memorial Award recognizes the meritorious and outstanding contributions of an independent agent or broker to the national association, to his or her Big “I” colleagues and to the insurance industry.

“Bill Hofmann has a long and distinguished record of service to the national association,” said Mike Miley, Big “I” chairman in presenting the award. “His work as chairman of the InsurPac board laid the groundwork for IIABA’s million dollar a year PAC and he continues to be very politically active at the local, state and national level, promoting the Big 'I' agenda.”

Hofmann has served on the national board of directors, executive committee, and as the association’s president. His committee work, both before and after his presidency, was also extensive, including work on the Government Affairs Committee, Finance Committee, AAS Board and many others. His work on behalf of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents and IIABA were recognized in 2001 when he received MAIA’s highest award, the Pacesetter of the year Award and the Massachusetts insurance community’s coveted Insurance Professional of the Year Award.

“Presenting this award is my proudest moment as Big ‘I’ chairman,” Miley said.

The Woodworth Award was established in 1925 in memory of C.H. Woodworth of Buffalo, N.Y., the second president of the association. It is awarded annually to the Big “I” member who best demonstrates outstanding service benefiting independent insurance agents and the entire insurance industry.

Founded in 1896, the Big “I” is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of more than 300,000 agents, brokers and their employees nationally. Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Independent agents and brokers offer all lines of insurance—property, casualty, life, health, employee benefit plans and retirement products. Web address: www.independentagent.com.
