Big "I" Names New Senior Director of Federal Government Affairs

Promotes Jennifer McPhillips to key Democrat lobbyist position.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 17, 2011 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (the Big “I”) announced that Jennifer McPhillips has been promoted to Big “I” senior director of federal government affairs and will serve as one of the association’s Democrat lobbyists on the bipartisan Capitol Hill team.

“Jennifer McPhillips’s extensive experience within the association, in addition to her government and political experience, has earned her the respect of many decision-makers in Washington and in the industry,” says Charles Symington, Big “I” senior vice president for government affairs. “It’s a pleasure to announce that she has been promoted to senior director of federal government affairs.”

McPhillips previously served as senior director of political affairs in charge of the Big “I”’s grassroots program and assisting with the management of the Big “I” political action committee (PAC), InsurPac. She first joined the Big “I” team in 2006 after working for Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-Iowa) and has moved up through the ranks.

“Jen holds a wealth of institutional knowledge after spearheading numerous grassroots campaigns, organizing record-breaking InsurPac fundraising efforts, and advocating for independent agents on crop insurance issues,” Symington says. “We are very proud of her numerous accomplishments on behalf of the Big ‘I’ and know that she will do an excellent job representing independent agents and brokers on Capitol Hill.”

McPhillips, a native of Ridgewood, N.J., earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in Italian from Providence College in Rhode Island.

Founded in 1896, the Big “I” is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of more than 300,000 agents, brokers and their employees nationally. Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Independent agents and brokers offer all lines of insurance—property, casualty, life, health, employee benefit plans and retirement products. Web address: www.independentagent.com.
